Last weekend, my son had a playdate with his friend at Punggol. Since it is far from where we live, we decided to tag along to explore the new area while the kid spends time with his friend.

When we arrived in the area, we were in for a surprise because of the huge township that we were looking at and the multiple towers of apartments and office spaces all around us. We were still gushing over the wide roads and the vast open spaces when we arrived at our destination — Waterfront Point. Though the malls really don’t excite us a lot, to beat the summer heat, we decided to take a tour before we come back to explore the neighbourhood on a rather cool evening.

We window shopped for some time, picked a few t-shirts for our son, and when our legs were about to give up, we decided to grab a bite and some coffee at Starbucks. Since the last few weekends, we have been busy with office or kid’s exams. So, it was fun for the two of us to just sit down and chat, without worrying about laundry (oh it’s a weekend nightmare 🤨)!

We got the needed rest and decided to step outside the mall as the temperature had dropped a few degrees by now. And were we in for a surprise!!! There was a beautiful and refreshing waterway just outside the mall — buzzing with people relaxing, running, walking, cycling, kids running around. The place was beautiful with water running through the middle of a loop. There was a boardwalk, bridges, open gyms, cycling paths, some refreshment shops — all in all, it was a place with promising activities for a fun day!

Being a runner, I liked the running loop the most. The loop wasn’t a circle but two almost parallel roads with a waterbody separating them. We weren’t in running clothes but decided to walk the loop to explore the path. The scenery changed every few metres towards the right. First, there was an eatery and ticket counter for water sports, then there was a small hill that led to an open gym and some shelter area. After the open gym, we came across a wooden hanging bridge to cross over to other side of the road (which we did 😉).

When we stood in the middle of the bridge and looked far away, it was just spectacular! My son is planning another visit to his friend soon and I can’t wait to try this amazingly delightful and invigorating running route!!!
